Juvenile Crime
Defense or other Criminal Defense issues or disputes.
When your child is accused of committing a crime, as a
parent, grandparent, or guardian Attorney, William Twyford
understands the full gamut of emotions you may experience.
Surprise, Frustration, Disappointment, and Fear &
Uncertainty relating to your child’s immediate and long-term
future, just to name a few.
Every generation is subjected to what the burden most
children are subjected to as they navigate adolescence. 30
or 40 years ago it was known as rebelling against the
establishment or authority, 10 to 20 years ago it was peer
pressure, and within the last 10 years it is the need to
have what is referred to as “Street Cred” (street
credibility).
It is not being suggested that juvenile crimes are 100% a
result of these influences in a youth’s environment. It is
being suggested that every generation’s youth are exposed to
various influences, pressures, or needs to be popular – to
fit in – to gain a reputation – or simple to have “street
cred.”
Unfortunately this sometimes leads to good kids making a
single error in judgment that involves breaking the law, or
that he or she believes going along with their peers is his
or her only option. Let’s face it, sometimes good kids make
bad decisions.
It is our goal to fight for your child in an effort to
ensure he or she does not have their life defined by a
single mistake, and/or that your child has the best
opportunity to learn from his or her mistake and have all of
their future goals and aspirations remain open to them for
their future.
Juveniles are typically tried in Juvenile Court, unless it
is determined by the State of Florida that the elements of
the crime and the crime itself was severe enough that the
juvenile should be tried as an adult. While being tried as
an adult is a rare, when it does occur it is considered a
very serious matter and that your child will be aggressively
prosecuted.
Crimes that are commonly associated with criminal offenses
committed by juveniles include, but are certainly not
limited to:
-
DUI Charges;
-
Underage Drinking;
-
Criminal Mischief or Disorderly Conduct;
-
Drug Related Charges;
-
Theft, Burglary, or Robbery;
-
Sexual Assault, Date Rape, or other Sex Crimes;
-
Violent offenses such as Assault or Battery.
If your child has been arrested and charged with committing
a crime, make sure you and your child are fully aware of
your child’s legal rights and the options that may be
available to them under the law in order to reach the best
possible outcome relating to the defense of juvenile crime
charges or other criminal charges he or she is facing.
